Classes and Homework

This page will give a brief summary of the classes we provide. Please visit the Al-Kisa Foundation website for a full list of books taught by each grade level. Our upmost responsibility at JIS is to promote a love for Islam and the Quran as well as the Ahlul Bayt (as). Children will learn through stories and interactive classroom material.

Pre-School

Ages 4-5 (must be 4 by Oct 1st)

These students learn Islamic Akhlaq, Quran, and Arabic through arts and crafts and play. Forming friendships and learning the rules and behaviors of the class and Masjid are important first steps in becoming a student at JIS.

Kindergarten

Ages 5-6

JIS will engage these students in Islamic Akhlaq, Fiqh, Quran, and begin learning the Arabic language through fun stories and interactive classroom activities. At this stage students learn best through activities and role models. We try to create a fun environment where children can learn while being surrounded by great role models.

First Grade

Ages 7-8

Our students in this level not only learn about Akhlaq, History, Fiqh, and Aqaid, they also work on perfecting their understanding of the Usool e Deen and Foru e Deen and their skills in reading the Holy Quran in Arabic**. All students at JIS are encouraged to participate in jama'at prayer. We also pair older students and younger students to help create a sense of camaraderie.

Second & Third Grade

Ages 8-9 (Boys and Girls are in Separate Classes)

This age is a critical age for our female students. We spend this year making sure they are prepared for their Islamic responsibilities. Girls turning 9 in this class will celebrate their "becoming of age" together at JIS with a big party (Baligha Celebration) with family and friends.

In this class, all students complete courses in the subjects of History & Akhlaq, Fiqh & Aqaid, Quran and Arabic**.

Fourth through Sixth grade

Ages 10-16

Older students spend much of their time in class discussing important issues related to practicing Islam in America at this age. They also complete Akhlaq, History, Fiqh, and Aqaid as well as Recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran**.

At this age we also encourage students to get involved in the community and help build relationships that last a lifetime!

** It is important to mention that our Quran classes for all ages are divided by skill level and not age. So students may be in a different Quran class than they are in during other subjects.
